Nefve, Braswell and Grant Nab All-SEC Accolades


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida men’s tennis team had three Gators claim 2023 SEC postseason honors on Thursday, as the conference office named Axel Nefve to First Team All-SEC, Jonah Braswell to Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team and Will Grant to Second Team All-SEC.
 
Axel Nefve | First Team All-SEC
In his one and only season in the conference, Nefve left his mark by leading the Gators from the top doubles and singles position to earn First Team All-SEC. Leading the Gators with 28 overall dual victories and 15 overall SEC victories, Nefve has played the toughest singles slate of anyone on the team. The lefty graduate student has faced five top-10 opponents and 17 ranked-foes this season, while earning seven ranked victories and two against top-25 players.
 
Also commanding the top doubles position, the Delray Beach, Fla. native took down nine ranked-pairs, including three in the top-10, and is 14-7 overall with an 8-3 record in the SEC. Despite beginning the spring unranked in both doubles and singles, Nefve currently boasts an ITA ranking of No. 34 in singles and No. 6 in doubles.
 
Jonah Braswell | Second Team All-SEC | SEC All-Freshman Team
After dominating the fall season, Braswell continued his strong play throughout the spring and claimed his spot on both Second Team All-SEC and the SEC All-Freshman Team. He transitioned well to dual competition and led Florida during the regular season with 13 singles victories across the No. 3 (9-7) and No. 4 (4-2) singles position. Tying Nefve with a team-high seven SEC victories, the Sarasota, Fla. native won four of five ranked matchups and secured all of them in straight sets.
 
Holding down the No. 3 doubles spot with Lukas Greif, the tandem clinched eight doubles points and went 12-6 in duals while posting a 5-2 record in SEC play. Braswell has been among the ITA’s top 125 singles rankings for the entire season, peaking at No. 48 in singles and No. 43 in doubles. Additionally, Braswell earned SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 8 after clinching the first match of his career against Florida State at USTA’s College MatchDay.
 
Will Grant | Second Team All-SEC
Making Second Team All-SEC is Co-Captain of the Gators, Grant, who exclusively played at the No. 1 doubles position and No. 2 singles position all season.
