NCAA Singles Championships: Jonas Ziverts and Gustaf Strom


TUCSON, Ariz. – For the second time in their careers, No. 52 Jonas Ziverts and No. 53 Gustaf Strom will compete in the NCAA Singles Championships at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. beginning Monday, May 23. 

Ziverts and Strom played consistently at the top two singles spots for Arizona and have remained ranked in the ITA top 125 singles from Feb. 9 for Ziverts and Strom since March 23.

Both freshmen at the time of their first selections to represent Arizona at the Singles Championships, Ziverts was ranked No. 66 in 2019 and Strom at No. 45 in 2021. They were each knocked out in the first round, Strom by the No. 4 seeded Val Vacherot of TCU 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. 

Ziverts was the first Wildcat to represent Arizona in the Singles Championships since Naoki Takeda in 2015. Before either of them, it was All-American Roger Matalonga who represented Arizona in 2006. 

Ziverts will play No. 101 Christopher Bulus of UNLV on Monday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. (CT). Bulus defeated Ziverts in the regular season 4-6, 7-6 (6-2), 10-7. 

Strom will play No. 12 Luc Fomba of TCU tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. (CT).
