#26 Women’s Tennis Wins Thriller Over #35 Northwestern, Advances to Round of 32

MALIBU, Calif.– For the second time in three seasons, No. 26 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis (15-9) has advanced to the Round of 32 as they defeated No. 35 Northwestern (19-9) in a 4-3 victory on Friday afternoon at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
 
Patricija Spaka/Chelsea Fontenel, the No. 31 ranked duo in the nation, picked up a 6-3 win on Court 1, but Northwestern picked up wins on Courts 2 and 3 to take the doubles point.
 
The Wildcats added on to their lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 1 and a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 6 to lead 3-0.
 
The Sun Devils came storming back to tie up the match with wins by Sara Svetac (6-3, 7-6 (6), Emilija Tverijonaite (6-2, 7-5) and Chelsea Fontenel (7-5, 6-4), all in straight sets.
 
With Marianna Argyrokastriti on Court 3, she clinched the Round of 64 victory for the Sun Devils in a three-set victory as she won 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (1).
