Monday Tabbed SEC Player of the Week

Johannus Monday has been named SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Wednesday.

The senior dominated the opening weekend of SEC action, recording two singles and two doubles wins as the Vols cruised past Georgia, 6-1, and Arkansas, 4-1.

Monday, now ranked sixth in singles in the latest ITA rankings, routed the Bulldogs’ 54th-ranked Thomas Paulsell in 6-2, 6-3 fashion on court one, posting his eighth victory over a ranked opponent in 2023-24. He also took down the Razorbacks’ Gerard Planelles in a decisive 6-2, 6-2 effort atop the lineup, notching his 25th career conference singles win.

In doubles action, Monday, alongside his partner, Angel Diaz, tallied three straight points to post a 6-3 victory over UGA’s Paulsell and Freddy Blaydes. The pair registered their fourth win over a ranked opponent with their 6-3 effort over UA’s Jared Horwood and Melvin Manuel.

Catch Monday and the rest of the Vols on Friday as they face No. 44 Auburn at 5 p.m. ET at Barksdale Stadium.
