Miami Advances at ACC Men's Tennis Championship


CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – No. 12 seed Miami swept No. 13 seed Boston College 4-0 on Wednesday to advance to the second round in the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Championships at the Cary Tennis Park.

Miami moves on to face No. 5 seed North Carolina on Thursday. First serve is set for 10 a.m.

The Hurricanes took the early 1-0 after clinching the doubles point with wins on Courts 2 and 3. Miami’s duo of Martin Katz and Antonio Prat took a 6-2 win over BC’s Will Kasten and Matthew Overvelde at the No. 2 spot, while the Canes’ Nacho Serra Sanchez and Yannik Rahman claimed a 6-3 win over the Eagles’ Bennett Turner and Caleb Saltz. The ranked matchup between Miami’s No. 43 Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet and BC’s No. 22 JJ Bianchi and Jake Vassel was left unfinished on Court 1 at 4-4.

It was all Miami from there as No. 92 Martin Katz defeated JJ Bianchi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 on Court 1, No. 125 Antonio Prat took down Caleb Saltz in two sets, 6-1, 6-3 on Court 2 and Adrien Burdet registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mai Gao on Court 4 to clinch the match for the Hurricanes.

Second-round play will be held Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. with No. 8 Notre Dame versus No. 9 Clemson and No. 5 North Carolina versus Miami. At 12:30 p.m., No. 7 Georgia Tech takes on No. 10 Louisville and No. 6 Florida State faces off with No. 11 Virginia Tech.

The top four seeds in No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 3 NC State and No. 4 Duke all picked up double byes into the Friday quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal round starts at 10 a.m. on Friday with top-seeded Virginia facing off with the Notre Dame-Clemson winner and No. 4 Duke battling North Carolina or Miami. The 12:30 p.m. quarterfinals feature No. 2 Wake Forest playing the Georgia Tech-Louisville winner and No. 3 NC State battling the Florida State-Virginia Tech winner.

The semifinals will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the championship match slated for 10 a.m. Sunday.
