Fayetteville, Ark. — Michigan State men’s tennis ended its week at the USTA 15K Fayetteville Futures on Friday.
Senior Max Sheldon started out the tournament with a win in qualifying that placed him in the first round going up against Timo Legout of Texas. After a tough battle, Sheldon could not finish his fight falling 4-6, 2-6.
Junior David Saye had a great start to the week defeating Brendan Boland 6-3, 6-1 to move on to the second round. Keeping that fight going, Saye took down Ishaan Ravichander 6-3, 6-1. After a back-and-forth match in the second round, a tough loss of 0-6, 4-6 ends the week for Saye.
Saye and Sheldon were paired up against Timo Legout and Issac Becroft for the first round of doubles match-ups. The pair had a fired-up start but could not continue that fight to finish their match losing 3-6, 4-6.
Sophomore Taym Alazmeh fell to Christopher Bulus 4-6, 3-6 in the first round but this would not be the last time they would go up against each other.
Alazmeh was paired up with Vanderbilt’s Danil Panarin for double matches this week. In the first round they were up against Dong and Chopra. Pulling ahead quickly in the first set they continued that fight, winning 6-4, 6-1. Next round, Alazmeh and Panarin were up against Bulus and Valiev. Fighting hard from the beginning, the pair set themselves up for a good match. They defeated Bulus and Valiev 7-6, 6-4. The pairs week ended in the semifinals.
These three Spartans will join freshman Matt Forbes, junior Ozan Baris, and junior Aristotelis Thanos in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the ITA All-American tournament.
