The Wisconsin men’s tennis team is set to kick off their fall season this weekend at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The tournament will take place from Friday, Sept. 27, to Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Western Racquet Club and Nicolet Tennis Club.
Here are five things to know before heading into the weekend:
1. WHO’S COMPETING: Junior Michael Minasyan, along with sophomores Matthew Fullerton and Colin Bedhun, will leverage their Badger experience at the tournament, aiming for a strong start to the season. Newcomer Patrick Meszaros is ready to make an mpact as he begins his collegiate career.
2. FRESH FACES ON THE TEAM: This season, the Badgers added three new freshmen to the team. Originally from Novi, Michigan, Sachiv Kumar joins the team with a remarkable background, having won three Michigan State Championships. Edouard Aubert, hailing from Geneva, Switzerland, brings his international experience, including competing in two ITF tournaments and clinching the U18 Swiss Championship. Lastly, Patrick Meszaros of Budapest, Hungary, adds his ATP experience to the Badgers, with a peak position of No. 9 in the Hungarian ATP rankings.
3. ABOUT THE HEAD COACH: Now in his ninth season at UW, Westerman boasts a career record of 92-82 (.529). His 92 victories position him fourth in the program’s all-time rankings, just eight wins shy of a milestone 100 wins.
