Men’s Tennis Eyes Thursday’s Matchup Against No. 25 Baylor


TEMPE– Arizona State Men’s Tennis (2-0) continues hosting duty at Whiteman Tennis Center with No. 25 Baylor (2-0) coming to town on Thursday, January 18 at 4:00 p.m. MST. Live stats will be available here, and stream coverage is TBD. 

The Sun Devils recorded back-to-back shutout wins in their season-opening matches against Northern Arizona and Wichita State last weekend to start the 2024 campaign 2-0, which is just the second time since 2018 that the program has seen a 2-0 start.

The first 200 fans at the match will receive free Chick-Fil-A, and there will be a free raffle for students to win a pair of Adidas Ultraboosts. 

Sun Devil Outlook

In the two victories last weekend, ASU held opponents scoreless and was highlighted by

senior Max McKennon, who won both doubles contests alongside freshman Bor Artnak. McKennon also took down both singles opponents in straight sets to contribute one point to each match’s total.   

Murphy Cassone won his singles contest 6-1, 6-2 against NAU and secured the team’s doubles point with the 6-2 victory alongside freshman Martin Vergara against Wichita State.

Scouting the Opponents

The Baylor Bears checked in at No. 25 in the ITA polls as of January 3 and earned 6-1 and 7-0 wins over Abilene Christian and Lamar University, respectively, last weekend to open their season. Baylor was 5-4 on the road in 2023 after posting a 12-7 record when playing at home. The Bears showcased a young roster and had seven first-time dual match wins last weekend.
