CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Mia Mack of the University of Miami women’s tennis team is the ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
Mack has now claimed two of the first three ACC rookie honors in 2023, as she also shared the Jan. 17 distinction to begin the spring.
The Löchgau, Germany, native is the fourth Hurricane to win multiple ACC Freshman of the Week designations since the award started in 2018. She joins current teammates Daevenia Achong and Isabella Pfennig on that list, as well as Ulyana Shirokova. Her honor is the 15th total, in just six seasons, for a Miami player.
Mack went 1-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles last week, with all her outings coming at home during ITA Kick-Off Weekend competition. Her singles win came Sunday against No. 114 Sofia Cabezas of No. 24 Iowa State, as Mack recorded a 7-5, 6-4 triumph for her first collegiate ranked win and fought off four break points in the final game to seal it.
In addition, Mack teamed with junior Audrey Boch-Collins for a Saturday doubles victory against Katerina Mandelikova and Kristina Miletic of FIU in an eventual 4-0 win for No. 10 Miami (2-1).
Mack and the Hurricanes resume play Friday at noon when they host FGCU at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
