Lee Advances in Consolation at ITA All-American Championships – Women's Tennis — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

CARY, N.C. – In main draw consolation action at the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday, Georgia Tech’s Carol Lee picked up a straight set win to advance to the quarterfinals of the backdraw. The prestigious tournament is being played at the Cary Tennis Park.

Facing Laia Conde Monfort of Tulsa, Lee took a set lead over the Hurricane, winning the opener. The Jacket held a dominating 5-1 lead in the set before Conde Monfort rallied back. But Lee held strong for a 6-4 win.

Lee opened the second set with a 3-1 advantage and fought off two break points in the next service game to go up 4-1. But Conde Monfort won the next three games to move back on serve at 4-all before Lee grabbed a 5-4 edge. The opponents then held serve to force a tiebreak at 6-all.

In the tiebreaker, Lee and Conde Monfort exchanged the first two points for a 1-1 tally before the Yellow Jacket dominated the remainder of the tiebreak, winning the next six points to secure the match, 6-4, 7-6 (1).

Lee will face No. 125 Julia Fliegner of Michigan in the consolation quarterfinals on Friday at 10 a.m.
