Late Surge Not Enough for No. 20 Men’s Tennis

Though the freshman/senior duo of Max McKennon and Bor Artnak dropped their first doubles match of the season this morning, they each picked up a singles win after defeating their opponents in straight sets to put ASU’s two points on the board. 

Murphy Cassone and Martin Vergara were the lone Sun Devil pair to get the doubles dub, which allowed South Carolina to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. 

McKennon’s singles win tied the match at 1-1, but back-to-back singles wins for the Gamecocks had USC with a 3-1 edge. Artnak defeated his opponent to pull within one, but Bullard fell on court four leaving Cassone’s match unfinished and the 4-2 score was final.
