DURHAM – Duke women’s tennis rookie Shavit Kimchi has been selected the ACC Freshman of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season, as announced Tuesday by the league office.
A native of Sdey Hemed, Israel, Kimchi went a perfect 1-0 in singles and doubles action last week helping lead the Blue Devils (10-5) to a sweep, 7-0, of 37th-ranked Princeton at a neutral site in Orlando, Fla.
Kimchi opened the match in doubles with teammate Katie Codd as the duo registered a 6-2 victory over Maia Sung and Madeleine Jessup on court one.
In singles, Kimchi collected a 6-3, 6-4 win over Neha Velaga at the No. 1 slot to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils. It marked the sixth time out of 10 wins this season for Duke that Kimchi has clinched the team win. Her six match-clinching victories equals the Blue Devil freshman record along with Emma Jackson (2021-22), Monica Turewicz (2011-12) and Mallory Cecil (2008-09).
Kimchi has won three straight singles matches and four out of her last five and owns 12 wins on the season, including three ACC victories.
Duke returns to ACC action this week as the Blue Devils travel to Wake Forest on Friday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m., and NC State on Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
