Jin heads to Stillwater, Okla. to Battle for NCAA Singles Title

Florida’s star Freshman looks to join the likes of Mark Merklein (’94), Jeff Morrison (’99), Sam Riffice (’21) and Ben Shelton (’22) to become the fifth Gator to take home the NCAA Singles title.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators star freshman Jeremy Jin will participate in the NCAA Men’s Singles Tournament in Stillwater, Okla. beginning on May 20. Jin received an at-large bid to the field of 64.

Jin, a native of Australia, assumed court one singles duties for Florida for every Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament match. Jin took home All-SEC Second-team and SEC All-Freshman team accolades in his first collegiate campaign, accumulating a 9-10 overall dual match singles record. He currently ranks as ITA’s No. 50 overall singles player.

Jin will enter the field of 64 as one of just eight first-year players to receive an automatic qualifier or at-large bid. Jin has previously faced and defeated three other members in the field of 64, those being Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss, Filip Planinsek of Alabama, and Raphael Perot of Texas A&M. Jin defeated Perot during opening weekend of SEC play, completing the sweep of No. 12 Texas A&M, and was awarded SEC Freshman of the week on March 6 for his efforts.

The Draw
Jin’s first battle of the tournament will be against the No. 5 seed in the tournament, and No. 5 player in the nation per ITA, Micah Braswell. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

NCAA Tournament History
Florida boasts five NCAA individual title winners in program history, including one doubles champion and four singles champs. No Gator freshman has ever won an NCAA individual title.
