Huskers Grab Second-Straight Sweep to Advance


Iowa City, Iowa – The Nebraska women’s tennis team started the Big Ten Tournament off strong with its eighth sweep of the season, as the Huskers defeated Purdue 4-0 to advance to Friday’s quarterfinals at 12 p.m. CT. 

Competition began with doubles play. In the No. 1 spot, Kristina Novak and Maja Makoric took the match over Purdue, 6-1, for their team-leading 12th win. Clinching the doubles point for the Big Red was Chloe Kuckelman and Isabel Adrover Gallego on Court 2 as they won, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot, Ellie Kuckelman and Samantha Alicea’s 3-3 battle against Milic and Larranaga resulted in an unfinished match. 

 

To start singles play, Novak played in the No. 1 spot and defeated Gallardo in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Chloe followed suit in the No. 5 spot with a 7-5, 6-4 win. At the No. 3 spot, Makoric won by medical forfet to grab the second-round win for the Huskers. 

Adrover Gallego, Alicea and Ellie battled in the second set at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 spots before the match was called. 

Up next, the Huskers will face the No. 3 seed Northwestern in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 12 p.m. CT.
