CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Gators women’s tennis program continued strong singles play on Saturday at the Miami Fall Invitational, sweeping Kentucky en route to six more singles victories.
Of five matches with the Wildcats, the Orange & Blue only dropped a single set on the afternoon. Carly Briggs, matched up with Florencia Urrutia, put together a consistent 6-3, 6-3 performance to secure her victory. Freshman Rachel Gailis earned her second win of the weekend, taking down Lidia Gonzalez with a swift 6-2, 6-1 match.
Fellow freshman Anastasia Sysoeva was dominant as well for the Gators, defeating Makayla Mills: 6-4, 6-2, while Bente Spee also cruised to a victory against Maialen Morante: 6-2, 6-0. Emily De Oliveira found herself in a battle with Zoe Hammond, but opened in control with a 6-0 first set. The Wildcat responded in-kind, evening the match behind a 6-2 second set, but De Oliviera kept her composure for a 6-1 third set and match victory. Elsewhere in singles, Sophie Williams also defeated Xiyao Wang of Barry.
On the doubles side of competition, two Florida doubles squads picked-up wins in Coral Gables. The duo of Gailis and Spee managed to outlast Justine Leong and Christina Hand of Northwestern, 6-4, while Sysoeva and Sara Dahlstrom managed to hang on against Maria Shusharina and Jennifer Riester of Northwestern, 7-6 (4).
Action on the final day of the Miami Fall Invite will resume on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET as the Gators are slated to matchup with Miami in singles play.
