Fishback and Chrysostom earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced it’s All-ACC team on Monday afternoon with junior Ryan Fishback named second-team All-ACC in singles and in doubles paired with redshirt-junior Jordan Chrysostom.

Playing Court 1 for the Hokies, Fishback reached as high as No. 44 in the country compiling five ranked wins including a 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 victory against then No. 12 Garrett Johns of Duke. The Geneva, N.Y. native posted an 11-14 record this spring finishing at No. 45 in the latest ITA poll. This marks his second-straight year being named second-team All-ACC.

In one of his best showings of the season, Fishback dominated in a straight-set victory over No. 28 Dan Martin of Miami, 7-5, 6-3, to set the stage for Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza to clinch Tech’s first ACC win of the season, 4-3.

As Tech’s premier pairing, Fishback and Chrysostom put together a 9-8 season with all of their matches played on Court 1. The Hokie duo produced three wins against pairs ranked in the top 50 headlined by a 6-3 drubbing of the No. 15 pair in the country from NC State, Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli. The dynamic duo played an instrumental role in Tech’s only ranked win of the season against No. 43 Miami with Fishback and Chrysostom ranked No. 4 in the nation the two dominated in a 6-3 win.

The two put on an impressive display at the ACC Championships cruising towards a 6-3 win against their Wake Forest challengers. This is the first All-ACC honor for both Fishback and Chrysostom who finish the regular season ranked as the No. 23 pairing in the nation.

Virginia Tech (9-16, 3-9 ACC) awaits its NCAA postseason fate following a tough loss to No. 21 Wake Forest in the ACC Championship, 4-1. The NCAA DI Men’s Tennis Championship field will be announced on Monday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m with individual selections announced at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2.
