STANFORD, Calif. – Washington won six of seven singles matches and three of four doubles matches on a strong first day at ITA Northwest Regionals. The Dawgs will have six in the round of sixty-four in singles on Saturday at Stanford’s Taube Tennis Center.
 
First to finish was Sarah-Maude Fortin, the No. 8 overall seed, who rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stanford’s Ana Geller. Jennifer Kerr was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Pacific’s Alexis Sam. Freshman Erika Matsuda had a straight set win over Meagan Pearson of Portland, 6-1, 7-5.
 
Astrid Olsen was pushed to a third but prevailed over Giulia Hayer of Santa Clara, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Another three set win was taken by Ashley Chang, who came back to beat Eliza Bates of Cal Poly, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Hikaru Sato then got the last UW win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Quianer Qui of San Francisco.
 
Washington was 3-1 in doubles to start the day. The duos of Fortin/Olsen, Sato/Sakar, and Kerr/Matsuda all advanced with pro-set victories. None of their opponents got more than three games. Yolanda Lin and Ashley Chang fell to the No. 4-overall seeds from Cal.
 
The tournament picks up bright and early on Saturday with round of 64 action in singles and round of 32 action in doubles.
