ROME, Ga. (theACC.com) – No. 2 seed Duke won the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Sunday afternoon, downing No. 4 seed Virginia, 4-1, at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The nip-and-tuck battle lasted nearly four hours.

 

Ranked No. 5 nationally, Duke (19-3) earned its 18th ACC Championship – most of any program – and first since 2012. It is the Blue Devils’ ninth ACC crown under head coach Jamie Ashworth. Duke’s Georgia Drummy was named the ACC Championship Most Valuable Player.

 

Duke claimed the doubles point with victories from Eliza Omirou/Margaryta Bilokin at No. 3 and Georgia Drummy/Karolina Berankova in a tiebreaker at No. 1.

 

Drummy gave the Blue Devils their first singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Ranked No. 7 nationally, the Cavaliers (20-5) then scored their lone win of the match at No. 1 singles, as top-ranked Emma Navarro scored a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over No. 8 Chloe Beck.

 

Duke’s Ellie Coleman recorded a 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory at No. 6 singles to give the Blue Devils a 3-1 team lead. The final three matches all went to three sets. After trailing 5-4 in the final set, Duke’s Emma Jackson scored a key break and then went on to seal the championship with a 7-3 tiebreaker win at No. 3 after a back-and-forth, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 battle with Elaine Chervinsky.
