Dawgs Record Fifth Sweep Of Season, Defeat San Diego State 4-0


SEATTLE – The No. 34 Washington women’s tennis team swept for the fifth time this season as they defeated No. 75 San Diego State 4-0.
 
Erika Matsuda and Sarah-Maude Fortin dropped the first doubles match on court 2, 6-0, but courts 1 and 3 got it done to secure the doubles point.
 
All three singles Husky wins came within a minute or two of each other. Melissa Sakar got the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in her first match this season on court 3.
 
With Erika Matsuda out, all the Dawgs moved all moved up a spot – led my Alexia Jacobs in her first match at No. 1. She took down 53rd– ranked Kabbaj in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Catherine Gagnon clinched the match on court 6, defeating SDSU’s Olmos 6-1, 6-2 to give the Huskies a 4-0 advantage.
 
Washington hits the road for matches next weekend at Illinois on Friday, March 1 and Ohio State on the 3rd.
