Cards Finish Strong in Final Day at Wildcat Invitational


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville wrapped up a three-day weekend at the Wildcat Invitational, adding seven more wins against players from Pepperdine and Michigan State on the final day of play.

Louisville secured two doubles victories over the Waves. No. 48 Natan Rodrigues and Fabien Salle defeated No. 59 Carlsson Halldin and De Jonge 6-4 while the duo of Matthew Fung and Sergio Hernandez took down Eric Hadigian Max Wuelfing 6-4. Will Mayew and Andre’ Steinbach teamed to beat Michigan State’s Reed Crocker and Kazuki Matsuno 6-3.

The Cardinals also found success in singles, racking up four victories on the day. Natan Rodrigues topped Tim Zeitvogel, No. 45 in the ITA preseason rankings, 7-5, 6-3. No. 84 Fabien Salle cruised past Eric Hadigian 6-4, 6-1. No. 111 Sergio Hernandez edged out a victory in three sets over Maxi Homberg 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Will Mayew secured a nail-biting win over Max Wuelfing 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. 

Looking ahead, the Cards will be represented at both the Alabama Invitational and the ITA Men’s All-American Championships Sept. 29-Oct. 2.
