Cal Trounces Pacific 7-0 – California Golden Bears Athletics

STOCKTON – The 30th-ranked California women’s tennis team won in commanding fashion for the fourth time in five matches in a 7-0 victory over Pacific on Tuesday. Valentina Ivanov clinched the win, and Jessica Alsola won her 16th straight singles match.
 
Cal improved to 9-7 after the nonconference result, while Pacific fell to 6-9.
 
The Bears were dominant in doubles, starting with Ivanov and Haley Giavara, who shut out Megan Carmichael and Tomi Main, 6-0, on court two. Hannah Viller Moeller and Berta Passola Folch clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph over Danielle Zamora and Alexis Sam on court three.
 
Cal did not drop a set in singles. Giavara claimed the first singles win, besting Main, 6-0, 6-1, on court two. Passola Folch followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Zamora on court six, before Ivanov beat Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle, 7-5, 6-0, to secure the overall match. Alsola, ranked 48th in this week’s ITA rankings, later closed out the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Klara Kosan on court one.
 
“It was nice to get back outdoors and play during a lovely sunny day in Stockton,” said Cal head coach Amanda Augustus, whose team previously beat No. 43 Oregon, 6-1, indoors on April 9. “We appreciate Pacific hosting us. It was good to get another match in. Overall as a team we were ready to go.”
