COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State showed its might again, sweeping in-state competitors Cleveland State and Toledo on Thursday at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The Buckeyes are now 4-0 on the young season.
A combination of Buckeyes including Justin Boulais, James Trotter, and JJ Tracy had successful days going 3-0. Ohio State managed to utilize six different variations of doubles teams and successfully captured the doubles point in each match with ease.
Youth on the Buckeyes roster continued to shine as freshman Alexander Bernard and redshirt-freshman Jack Anthrop and Reece Yakubov came away with wins. For Yakubov, it was his first collegiate dual match victory.
Cleveland State Match
Doubles
- Ohio State’s Trotter and Boulais only surrendered one point as they raced past Cleveland State’s Carl Gedlitschka and JuandeDios Abboud to start the day.
- The Buckeyes second-ranked duo in the country of Tracy and Andrew Lutschaunig handled their business against the Vikings pair of Kade Mindry and Raul Teichmann on court one with a 6-2 victory.
Singles
- Anthrop could not be slowed down, easily taking down Cleveland State’s Carl Gedlitschka in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
- Fifth-ranked Tracy and 90th-ranked Alexander Bernard never faltered for the Buckeyes, only giving up two points each on their way to victories over Kade Mindry and Raul Teichmann, respectively.
- Back-to-back Buckeye wins by Robert Cash and Yakubov on courts five and six excited the crowd at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Yakubov earned his first victory as a Buckeye.
Toledo Match
Doubles
- The Buckeye pair of Kingsley and Tracy made quick work of Toledo’s Luis Kleinschnitz and Vlad Meluta, winning 6-0 on court three.
- Ohio State’s Boulais and Cash teamed up to deliver a shutout 6-0 victory the Rocket’s Marko Galic and Adam Kovac on court two.
Singles
- Lutschaunig impressed on court six with a confident win (6-1, 6-1) over Toledo’s Meluta.
- Buckeyes Boulais and Trotter battled against the Rocket’s Krzysztof Wetoszka and Kovac on courts two and three to come away with two victories. Boulais over Wetoszka 6-3, 6-1, followed by Trotter over Kovac 6-2, 6-4.
