Boilers Welcome Two Ohio Opponents

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team is fresh off a bye week as they welcome in the Xavier Musketeers and the Toledo Rockets from their neighboring state of Ohio.

The Boilermakers enter the weekend on a four-game losing streak. Their lone win came against the IUPUI Jaguars on January 28 where they posted a 5-2 decision. Since their win, the Boilers have dropped the last two doubles points at No. 2 and 3. Luckily they’ll have a chance to right the ship as the Musketeers doubles teams are 9-14 this season.

Despite the struggles, duo Tomasz Dudek/Daniel Labrador have maintained success in their outings even with Labrador battling a minor ankle injury in recent weeks. The pair is 3-1 riding a two-match win streak. Both Labrador and Dudek own a 3-2 record or better in doubles play while getting all their reps at No. 1.

The singles lineup has seen some fluctuation in recent matches with young players earning opportunities to shine. Freshmen Mujtaba Ali-Khan and Hassan Baroudi moved up to No. 3 and 6. Ali-Khan owns a .500 record for the spring after a 1-3 start in his move up to No. 3, while Baroudi earned his second career win at No. 6 against Ball State last Wednesday.

Both Xavier and Toledo come to West Lafayette with impressive starts to their seasons. Neither team has more than three losses and they share a combined record of 13-6. This will be the first-ever meeting between Purdue and Xavier.
