Cal Beats Aggies In Back To Back Matches

BERKELEY – Junior Alex Chang and freshman Timofey Stepanov each won a pair of singles matches to lead the California men’s tennis team to a doubleheader sweep of UC Davis on Saturday at Hellman Tennis Complex.

The matches were part of a restructured weekend schedule that saw the Golden Bears cancel their Sunday matches against the Aggies and UC Santa Barbara due to impending inclement weather.

Chang won both of his matches Saturday in straight sets. Stepanov needed three sets to register his second win, which proved to be the clincher in Cal’s 5-2 victory.

The Bears won the first matchup, 4-0. Sophomore John Kim provided the clincher in the opener.

Cal returns to the courts on Feb. 11 against Pepperdine in Berkeley.

A complete recap will follow.
