Badgers welcome Jason Hildebrandt as transfer

MADISON, Wis. โ€” The Wisconsin men’s tennis team has gained an Ivy League veteran in Jason Hildebrandt, who will join a resurgent Badgers team for the 2022-23 season.

Following four successful seasons at Penn, Hildebrandt will join the Wisconsin roster as a graduate student in the fall and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Hildebrandt won 33 doubles matches and 33 singles matches over his four years at Penn, despite the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the Quakers’ number of matches.

He graduated this spring with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and currently holds a Universal Tennis Ranking of 12.64.

“We are thrilled to add Jason to our team this fall,” said UW head coach Danny Westerman, who guided the Badgers to a third-place Big Ten finish this season, his seventh year at the helm of his alma mater. “He just helped lead Penn to their best season in school history and he played near the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles.

“He has very high aspirations for his tennis and we will do everything we can to help him get to the next level. We know he is motivated to improve our team and build on our strong season from this past year. Jason will make an immediate impact on our team and we cannot wait to get on the court with him.”

This past season, Hildebrandt went 7-3 at No. 1 doubles and 8-10 at No. 2 singles, helping the Quakers to the program’s first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. Battling Ivy League COVID restrictions, Hildebrandt went 4-2 in singles overall and posted a 5-1 record at No. 1 doubles as a junior during the 2020-21 season.

As a sophomore, Hildebrandt played his way into the main draw at the ITA Northeast Regional, winning two qualifying matches and advancing to the Round of 16.

Hildebrandt posted a 7-3 record in the fall and scored 13 singles wins overall as a freshman in 2018-19.

Before playing collegiately, Hildebrandt had a successful prep career in his home country of Germany. He finished runner-up in singles at both the 2016 and 2017 Northern German Championships and won the U18 doubles title at the 2015 German Championships.
