Associate Head Coach Georgia Munns Leaving Washington

SEATTLE – Associate head coach Georgia Munns will be leaving UW prior to the 2023-24 women’s tennis season to pursue other professional opportunities. Munns has been with the Huskies for the past nine seasons.

While at Washington, Munns has spent time as both a volunteer assistant and assistant coach under Head Coach Robin Stephenson before she was elevated to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2019-20 season.

“I am beyond grateful for the last eight years as a Husky. This program has meant the world to me,” Munns said. “I want to say a huge thank you to every student-athlete, support staff, administrator and donor. The people are what make UW so special and I feel fortunate to have been surrounded by the best of the best. Most importantly, thank you to Robin for giving me the opportunity to build this program together. I have immense pride in how we built the program the right way and I have more great memories than I could ever have hoped for.”

WINS AT WASHINGTON

Munns’ most recent success with Washington came in team success in the NCAA Championships during the 2023 season. The Huskies outlasted Arkansas in the first round of NCAAs, marking the first time the Dawgs have earned back-to-back tournament appearances since the 2008-11 postseason run.

In 2022, the Huskies again reached the NCAA tournament while also qualifying for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in 11 years. Washington made this run by upsetting UCLA on the road for the first time in program history, helping the team to a 37th-ranked finish – cementing the fourth top-40 finish in a six-year span for the program.

Munns helped coach 2022 grad Vanessa Wong to a record-breaking 112 career singles victories, breaking a 20-year school record. Wong was also a NCAA Woman of the Year nominee during her senior campaign to supplement her All-Pac-12 second team honors.

Three players were ranked in singles during the 2022 season – Wong, Nika Zupancic, and Sarah-Maude Fortin

Washington was ranked 27th in 2020 before COVID cut the season short, with the Dawgs coming out of the gates with an impressive 11-3 start.

In 2019, Munns helped lead the Huskies to one of their best seasons in UW women’s tennis history – a 21-5 record in dual matches and a No. 10 finish in the ITA rankings. Washington tied for second in the Pac-12 with a program-best 8-2 record, while also earning a spot in the NCAA tournament round of 16 for the first time in a…
