Andreini and Fishback to receive ACC Postgraduate Scholarship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia Tech’s Katie Andreini and Ryan Fishback are among the 51 student-athletes selected as 2024 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Award recipients, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference today.

In 2023, both Andreini and Fishback were named recipients of Virginia Tech’s Skelton Award, which is considered the highest honor a Virginia Tech student-athlete can achieve.

Andreini, who has competed for the Hokies since the 2020-21 season, was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in 2023. She’s twice been named an ITA Scholar Athlete and in 2023, earned the ITA Atlantic Regional Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award. The Cary, N.C. native also serves as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Fishback, who also began competing for Tech in 2020-21, has two All-ACC Academic Team nods in his career. Along with commanding Court No. 1 for three seasons with the Hokies, Fishback was named a CSC First-Team Academic All-American in 2023, along with twice receiving the NCAA’s Elite 90 Award (2022 and 2023), which is given to the individual student-athlete with the highest GPA competing in the NCAA Championships that year.

This year’s list includes three student-athletes who will also receive the Pat & Thacker Scholarship Award and 26 who plan to pursue professional careers in their chosen sports, who received the 2024 ACC Excellence Award (formerly called Honorary Scholarship nominees).

“Once again, this year’s class of ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients represents all that is right in collegiate athletics,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “The student-athletes in the ACC continue to set the bar when it comes to academics and athletics, which is no more evident than with this group of incredible 51 student-athletes. The dedication and commitment to excellence both in competition and in the classroom is remarkable. The future is extremely bright for all of these incredible student-athletes, and we look forward to continuing to support them.”

The Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree after completing their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $9,000 toward his or her graduate education, an increase from $6,000 in previous years following a vote of the league’s Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs).
