Alabama Women’s Tennis Inks Priya Nelson to NLI


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women’s tennis team signed incoming freshman Priya Nelson to the Class of 2023, head coach Jenny Mainz announced Thursday.

“Alabama women’s tennis got better today with the addition of Priya Nelson joining the Crimson Tide. We’re looking forward to the positive impact Priya will make in our program. Priya has established that she can compete at a very high level and she’s eager to bring her competitive character to our team. Priya’s confidence, experience and intensity will push to elevate our lineup.”

Priya Nelson

  • Nelson is an elite player out of Sacramento, California who is a top-five recruit nationally
  • Nelson won the 2019 Eve Zimmerman National Championship and 2017 Easter Bowl
  • A 2018 Winter Nationals finalist, she was also a 2018 Easter Bowl Quarterfinalist and 2017 Easter Bowl Consolation Finalist
  • The Sacramento native showcased her talent at a young age when she was named winner of 2013 Lil Mo National Championships 8’s
  • Nelson already has multiple distinguished wins, having defeated Katie Codd (Duke), Emma Sun (Stanford), Gianna Pielet (Texas A&M) and Veronica Miroshnichenko (Loyola Marymount)
  • Nelson’s academic success mirrors her athletic accomplishments, as she has earned Dean’s List honors all four years of high school and is a California Scholarship Federation Recipient
