Alabama Men’s Tennis Concludes Play at the SEC/Big 12 Challenge


TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– The Alabama men’s tennis team finished competition Sunday at the SEC/Big 12 Challenge at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. 

SEC/Big 12 Challenge Singles

  • Filip Planinsek defeated Texas Tech’s Tyler Stewart, 7-5, 6-2
  • German Samofalov won in mirror sets over Oklahoma State’s Isaac Becroft, 6-4, 6-4
  • Matias Ponce De Leon was victorious over Texas Tech’s Sebastian Abboud, 6-3, 6-4
  • Roan Jones gave the Tide their final of the day over Oklahoma State’s Chase Ferguson, 6-4, 6-4

SEC/Big 12 Challenge Doubles

CCB Invitational

  • Joao Ferreira also competed Sunday as he finished play in the CCB Invitational, which was held in Birmingham, Ala.
  • The UA sophomore battled Belmont’s Alfred Wallin in the fourth round, and forced a tiebreaker in the opening set before falling, 7-6
  • Ferreira then fell 6-2 in the final set

  • The Crimson Tide will play its final match of the fall season when it hosts the TuscaBama UTR, which will be held this weekend, Nov. 11-13, at the Alabama Tennis Stadium
