Abedallah Shelbayh Turns Professional - Florida Gators

Shelbayh played one season for the Gators and is currently ranked No. 524 in the ATP Singles Rankings.

GAINSEVILLE, Fla. – Abedallah Shelbayh announced his decision to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility on Thursday and has turned professional after taking the fall season off to play on the professional tour.

Shelbayh, a member of the 2022 SEC Championship team, finished his freshman season 10-9 in doubles and 11-5 in singles for the Gators.

From Amman, Jordan, Shelbayh became the first player from Jordan to win a match on the ATP Challenger Tour when he beat the then-ATP No. 127 and Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finalist Dominic Stricker in the first round of the Rafa Nadal Open in Mallorca, Spain. The tournament marked many firsts for Jordanian tennis as Shelbayh advanced all the way to the semifinals in his Challenger debut.

Shelbayh is the only native of Jordan within the entire ATP Pepperstone Rankings. Currently ranked No. 524 at 19 years old, he is 29th among all teenagers on the tour.
