Tennessee (22-8, 9-4 SEC) could not outlast Texas A&M (27-7, 12-1 SEC) in doubles, falling behind 1-0. The duo of Esther Adeshina and Alana Wolfberg came up short 1-6 against Carson Branstine and Lucciana Perez. The No. 11-ranked tandem of Sofia Cabezas and Elza Tomase yielded a 2-6 final line versus the seventh-ranked pair of Mary Stoiana and Mia Kupres. Lauren Anzalotta and Catherine Aulia were tied in a 4-4 battle against Nicole Khirin and Jeanette Mireles when play stopped.
In singles, the Lady Vols put up a valiant effort, taking three opening sets and sending a fourth to a tiebreaker, but they could not claw all the way back. No. 14 Cabezas fell to the nation’s top-ranked player, Mary Stoiana, 1-6, 2-6. Tomase dropped a 5-7, 2-6 result to No. 88 Carson Branstine.
Adeshina got the Lady Vols on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jeanette Mireles. Tennessee then started to mount comeback bids on multiple courts, but it proved to be too late. Alana Wolfberg’s 7-5, 0-6, 3-6 defeat versus No. 26 Nicole Khirin ended the match.
