Tennis Topped By No. 38 Ole Miss, 4-0

Mississippi State

OXFORD, Miss. — University of Missouri tennis lost an away match at No. 38 Ole Miss on Friday, April 12, falling to the Rebels 4-0. Mizzou’s record drops to 5-20 for the 2024 campaign, and it is still searching for its first SEC win.

The Tigers opened the afternoon with doubles play and could not secure the point, falling short on courts one and three to Ole Miss. The doubles duo of seniors Gabriela Martinez and Romary Cardenas Rifka faced off in the No. 2 spot and held strong against the Rebels, ultimately going unfinished tied at 4-4.

Mizzou could not hold off the Rebels in singles play, with Ole Miss claiming wins on courts three, four, and five. In the No. 1 singles spot, senior Mae Canete grabbed an early 6-3 lead in the first set but was taken down 6-2 in the second set. The match was left unfinished, with the Rebel up 2-1 in the third set.

HEAD COACH BIANCA TURATI

“The girls played and competed hard today. Ole Miss has a strong lineup from top to bottom, and it showed today. It was a very close doubles point with tons of opportunities on all courts. We have to do a better job of taking our chances. In singles, we had close first sets, but our level and physicality dropped in the second sets. That is something we need to do better as we get into our final regular season SEC match on Sunday and into the tournament. Again, the improvement is there. We still have good opportunities ahead of us. We’ll keep our heads up and fight with all we’ve got.”
