DURHAM – No. 14 Duke men’s tennis heads back on the road this weekend when it concludes its regular season slate traveling to No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 16 NC State.

The Blue Devils battle the Demon Deacons at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Wake Forest Tennis Center, before facing off against the Wolfpack on Sunday at noon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

 

Two Duke singles players and two doubles pairs were ranked by the ITA in its most recent listing. In singles play, redshirt senior Garrett Johns and sophomore Pedro Rodenas placed No. 24 and No. 44, respectively. In doubles action, Johns and Rodenas combine to make the No. 3 team nationally, while graduate students Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang team up as the No. 56 ranked pairing.

HISTORY WITH NO. 7 WAKE FOREST

Friday’s contest will be the 111th all-time meeting between the two programs with the Blue Devils holding the 87-23 edge on the series. Duke has won two-straight over the Demon Deacons, including a thrilling 4-3 victory in the ACC Championship semifinals last season. The last Wake Forest win came on April 17, 2022, when the Demon Deacons defeated Duke, 4-2, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS

Wake Forest is the sixth top-10 opponent Duke will face this season. The Demon Deacons currently hold a 24-4 overall record, including a 9-1 mark in ACC play. Wake Forest brings a 14-game winning streak into Friday’s contest and are undefeated at home at 13-0. Four singles players and one doubles duo are nationally ranked in the ITA’s most recent listing. Senior Filippo Moroni holds the No. 29 ranking, while sophomore DK Suresh Ekambaram (No. 69), graduate student Franco Capalbo (No. 100), and senior Luciano Tacchi (No. 116) are also listed nationally. In doubles action, Suresh Ekambaram joins graduate student Holden Koons to make up the No. 1 pairing in the country as the duo hold an 18-1 dual-match ledger, including an 8-0 mark in conference play.
