Tar Heels defeat Virginia, Head to ACC Championship Match

DURHAM, N.C. — The UNC women’s tennis team (29-0) defeated No. 10 Virginia (18-6) 4-0 on Saturday morning at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on the Duke University campus.

With inclement weather heading toward the triangle, the decision was made to move the ACC Semifinals matches indoors. The Tar Heels have now won 20-straight matched indoors during the dual match part of the season.

North Carolina began the morning with wins on doubles courts one and two to clinch the doubles point and enter singles play with a 1-0 lead over Virginia.

The Tar Heel pairing of No. 11 Crawley/Tanguilig (UNC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead, before claiming the first win on court 2, 6-3 over No. 34 Subhash/Chervinsky of Virginia in a match lasting just over 31-muntes long.

On court 1, No. 16 Brantmeier/Scotty battled No. 13 Collard/Adams back and forth. The match was tied four times, with UVA pulling out the match 6-4

Court 3 was a Top Gun “dog fight” of its own, with Forbes/Tran exchanging points with Ziodato/Xu. The Heels got out to a 4-3 lead, before UVA tied the match at 5 all. The Heels got the win, 7-5 battling the entire way.

The Tar Heels and Cavaliers battled in singles play.

No. 95 Elizabeth Scotty who won the first set 6-1, that battle back from a 3-4 deficit to win 6-4 over No. 120 Hibah Shaikh.

Then it was No. 1 Fiona Crawley took down No. 51 Natasha Subhash 6-2, 6-2, giving the Heels the 3-0 lead.

All eyes turned to court 1, as No. 21
