LOS ANGELES – Playing its first home match in 26 days, the UCLA men’s tennis team stormed to a 4-0 Pac-12 win against Washington Friday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Fresh off his first career dual-match singles victory, Timothy Li earned another in clinching fashion. Gianluca Ballotta and Giacomo Revelli also prevailed in singles play for the Bruins (10-7, 2-3 Pac-12), who narrowly took the doubles point, as well. Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn were victorious in doubles play for the Huskies (10-9, 1-4).
UCLA’s pair of Stefan Leustian and Patrick Zahraj came out on top of a 6-3 result opposite Brett Pearson and Nedim Suko to start doubles play. No. 58 Bouchelaghem and Zharyn answered on Court 1, outlasting Li and Revelli 7-2 in a tiebreaker. With the focus on Court 3, Jeffrey Fradkin and Aadarsh Tripathi broke the serve of Jim Hendrikx and Han-Chih Lin to seal a 7-5 win and the initial point.
The Bruins swept the singles first sets and Ballotta soon followed with a successful second, as well. His 6-4, 6-0 showing versus Hendrikx put him in a tie for the team lead with seven dual-match singles victories.
Next off was Court 2, where Revelli triumphed over Zharyn in a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
Li completed the sweep on Court 6, holding off Pearson for the 6-3, 7-5 deciding victory. Li has now won back-to-back conference singles matches.
UCLA continues its homestand Saturday, when Oregon comes to LATC. First serve is set for 1 p.m. PT.
