GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Brian Cernoch earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week nod while the Tar Heels’ Ryan Seggerman and Casey Kania were named the ACC Men’s Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Cernoch posted a 2-0 record in singles at the No. 1 spot, as both victories came against ranked opponents. The Rockville, Maryland, native beat No. 95 Hunter Heck of Illinois in two sets, 6-0, 6-1, before taking down No. 8 Jake Fearnley of third-ranked TCU with the come-from-behind win after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Cernoch’s teammates Ryan Seggerman and Casey Kania knocked off the fourth-ranked doubles pairing of Sander Jong and Lui Maxted of No. 3 TCU, 6-4, at the No. 1 doubles position. The pair narrowly dropped their doubles match against Illinois, falling in a tiebreaker, 6-7, (5-7).
