Rodenas Receives ITA Carolina Region Award


DURHAM – Duke sophomore Pedro Rodenas received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Region Player to Watch Award, the organization announced.

Every year the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season. This is the second career ITA honor for Rodenas as the Madrid, Spain, native was tabbed the 2023 ITA Rookie of the Year a season ago.

 

Rodenas received postseason All-ACC second team praise for the second-straight year and led the team with 26 overall singles wins, including a team-leading 18 dual wins. Throughout the season, Rodenas played on Duke’s top two courts and held a winning record on each, including a 15-8 mark on court two. He tallied two match-clinching victory against Middle Tennessee State to win the Durham ITA Kickoff Weekend and against No. 28 North Carolina to send Duke into the ACC Championship semifinals. In addition, he held a team-leading 11-9 ledger against nationally-ranked opponents.

 

In doubles play, Rodenas and teammate Garrett Johns were selected ITA All-Americans at the conclusion of the season. The First Team All-ACC selections led the program in overall doubles wins with a 22-5 mark this past season. The duo played on Duke’s top two courts and held a winning record on both, including a 17-4 ledger on court one. They finished ACC play with a 9-1 mark and went an impressive 16-4 against nationally-ranked opponents, including victories over the No. 1, No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9 ranked duos. Additionally, the pair strung together a 12-match winning streak, all over ranked foes, during the season and advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championships quarterfinals.
