#7 Women's Tennis Handles Business in Doubleheader


RALEIGH – Seventh-ranked NC State women’s tennis took care of business Friday as they swept the day with wins over No. 28 Syracuse and in-state foe East Carolina. 

The day started with a top-30 and conference matchup with Syracuse. The Orange did not submit any names for doubles three, giving the Pack an automatic doubles win to start the match. Play was halted on court two when No. 19 Amelia Rajecki and Nell Miller claimed a 6-3 win on court one to make the doubles point official.

Syracuse player’s on courts two and six had to retire, resulting in two quick singles points to put NC State ahead 3-0. No. 9 Alana Smith picked up another ranked win over No. 95 Zeynap Erman with a 6-0, 6-2 finish. Courts one, two, three, five, and six featured wins in only two sets for the Wolfpack.

The only loss of the day for the red-and-white was Gina Dittmann on court four who fell in a tough match with Polina Kozyreva.

To continue the day the Wolfpack took on the purple and gold Pirates that live just down the highway. The match resulted in a 7-0 sweep over East Carolina, making it the fourth sweep for the Pack this season. 

Both doubles and singles displayed the same lineups from earlier in the day but proved to be successful. 

Rencheli and Smith took the first doubles win with a 6-1 near shutout over Martina Muzzolon and Isabella Rivera Ortiz on court two. No. 19 Miller and Rajecki continued in style as they took down Ines Bachir and Alisha Hussain 6-2 on court one to clinch the doubles point and halt play on court three.
