Zimnokh Concludes SEC/Big Ten Challenge Undefeated, Alabama Wins Three of Four Matches on Final Day


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Freshman Andrii Zimnokh tied as the overall winner at the SEC/Big Ten Challenge, finishing the tournament undefeated with three singles and three doubles wins.  

With the help of Zimnokh, the Tide finished Sunday’s events winning three of four singles matches.

Overall, the Southeastern Conference won 39 of 52 matches over the three-day tournament.

The Competition

  • Zimnokh and Ole Miss’ Nikola Slavic finished the tournament undefeated as both athletes recorded three singles and three doubles victories
  • Zimnokh gave up just one game in his final match of the tournament, downing Purdue’s Mujtaba Ali-Khan 6-0, 6-1
  • Matias Ponce De Leon won in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) against Stefan Simeunovic (Purdue)
  • Filip Planinsek rounded out the day with a three-set, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Aleksa Kriokapic
