Zharyn Finishes 2-1 Run In Tulsa

SEATTLE — Dzianis Zharyn fell one match short of reaching the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships today in Tulsa, Okla. He started the morning with a straight set win to reach the final round of qualifying, but fell in his second match of the day.

Zharyn, the Belarusian junior, opened his day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mario Martinez Serrano of Troy University. Facing 100th-ranked Robin Catry of NC State in the afternoon, it was another 6-3, 6-3 match but this one went against Zharyn. He got down service breaks early in each set, and had a few chances to get back on serve but couldn’t cash in his break point opportunities.

Still it’s a strong 2-1 opening week for Zharyn in his first appearance at the All-American Championships. Most of the Husky roster will be making its fall debuts this Friday as Washington hosts ITA Northwest Regionals.
