Xu Named Academic All-American – Stanford University Athletics

STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Valencia Xu was awarded for her success on both the tennis court and classroom on Thursday morning, named a second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators. 

Boasting a 4.00 GPA, Xu is only one of three sophomores in the country named to this exclusive list. She played the majority of the season on court five in singles, going 13-6, along with a 3-0 record on court four. Overall in singles play, Xu boasted a 26-8 record. In doubles, Xu partnered primarily with Connie Ma and saw immense success on court three, as the duo went 17-3 this spring. Xu ended her season winning six singles matches in a row and was 3-0 in the NCAA Tournament. She went 3-1 on the year against ranked opponents. 

Xu joins Emily Arbuthnott (2019, 2020, 2021), Alice Barnes (2006), Julie Scott (1998), Heather Willens (1993) and Sandra Birch (1989, 1990, 1991) as Stanford players to earn Academic All-America status. This is the first year in which tennis is its own category for the award, as it used to previously be honored under the “at-large” category.
