SEATTLE – All-time winningest Husky Vanessa Wong has been named as an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee, one of two for Washington along with softball standout Gabbie Plain.

The Woman of the Year Award, created in 1991, recognizes graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in athletics, academics, leadership and community service. The Pac-12 Conference will next select 1-2 nominees from the member schools to move on to the selection committee.

A Toronto, Canada native, Wong broke the UW career singles wins record in her final match with win No. 112 in the NCAA team tournament first round. She also ranks first in combined singles and doubles wins with 193. She was a four-time All-Pac-12 selection, and ended the year ranked nationally in singles all five seasons, with a career-high No. 14 ranking this past fall.

She returned to Washington for a fifth year in 2021-22 in order to help lead the Huskies back to the NCAA Team Championships, and the Huskies achieved that goal. This spring, UW earned its first ever road win at UCLA, qualifying for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship final site, and had its first Arizona/Arizona State road sweep since 2003.

Wong is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration: Information Systems and owns a 3.71 GPA. She completed her Bachelors majoring in Marketing with a 3.7 grade point average.

Wong was named the 2021 ITA Northwest Region Senior Player of the Year. She was an NCAA Singles qualifier in 2021 and 2018 and NCAA Doubles qualifier in 2018.
