Women's Tennis Welcomes Fresno State


TEMPE, Ariz.- After a pair of season-opening sweeps, Sun Devil Women’s Tennis (2-0) will be back at Whiteman Tennis Center on Saturday for a match against Fresno State set to begin at 11 a.m. MST.

LAST TIME OUT
The Sun Devils opened their season at home with a pair of 7-0 sweeps over UC Davis and UC San Diego to begin the 40th season for head coach Sheila McInerney.
 
Giulia Morlet opened her season going 4-0 in singles and doubles as she did not lose a game in either of her singles matches over the weekend.
 
It was the debuts of freshmen Emilija Tverijonaite and Ada Piestrzynska. They partnered up for doubles in the match with UC Davis as they picked up a 6-3 win. Tverijonaite went 2-0 in singles in the opening two matches with wins in straight sets. Piestrzynska made her singles debut in the UC San Diego match with a 7-5, 6-2 win in straight sets.
 
PREVIEWING THE BULLDOGS (0-0)

  • Fresno State will open its season in Tempe on Saturday as the team finished 2023 with a 10-14 record.
  • The Bulldogs are led by Denise Dy, who is in her fourth season with the Bulldogs. In each season, Dy has coached a Bulldog to Mountain West Player of the Year honors and Dy was named Mountain West Coach of the Year in 2022.
  • Fresno State welcomed a pair of new assistant coaches to the team this season with the addition of Daniel Baturyn and Julia Deming.
  • The team returns seven of its eight players on their roster this season, including Pang Jittakoat, who has been named the Mountain West Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons. They also return Jittakoat’s doubles partner Matilde Magrini who finished the season ranked No. 45 in doubles with Jittakoat.
  • Magrini has earned All-MW Doubles Team honors in each of her first two seasons at Fresno State.
