Women’s Tennis Tops Washington State

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women’s Tennis (10-8, 2-4 Pac-12) opened its weekend at home with a win over Pac-12 opponent Washington State (10-6, 1-5 Pac-12) on Friday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

ASU got out to an early lead after claiming the doubles point. On court two, the duo of Giulia Morlet/Sara Svetac downed Washington State’s Fifa Kumhom/Yura Nakagawa, 6-1. Marianna Argyrokastriti/Emilija Tverijonaite followed up with a 6-2 victory on court three to clinch the doubles point.

Moving into singles play, Patricija Spaka extended the lead for the Sun Devils as she downed the Cougars’ Markov, 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Two additional Sun Devils recorded singles win as No. 87 Tverijonaite and Chelsea Fontenel.

Tverijonaite defeated Yura Nakagawa, 6-3, 6-4 on court three before Fontenel delivered the clincher on court two, defeating Elyse Tse, 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-1. 

Washington State two points of the day came in three sets on court 5 where Hania Abouelsaad took down Rachel Hanford, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 and on court 4 as Fifa Kumhom defeated Sara Svetac, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

ASU will close out its weekend at home as the Sun Devils will face No. 25 Washington tomorrow at 11 a.m. MST.
