Women’s Tennis Set for ITA All-American Championship in Cary


CARY, N.C. – The Duke women’s tennis team is set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship, which will be contested Sept. 21-29 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary.  A total of seven Blue Devils will see action starting Saturday. 
 
Kicking things off for the Blue Devils in pre-qualifying will be freshman Ava Krug in singles against Portland’s Sally Pethybridge at 12 p.m.  Krug will then team with freshman Irina Balus in doubles versus Shelly Bereznyak and Audrey Spencer of Ohio State at 4:30 p.m., in doubles. 
 
Pre-qualifying will take place Sept. 21-22 followed by qualifying Sept. 23-24 with Balus competing in singles. 
 
The main draw will be held Sept. 25-29 with Duke’s senior Emma Jackson, senior Ellie Coleman, junior Katie Codd, sophomore Shavit Kimchi and sophomore Eleana Yu in singles.  In doubles play, Kimchi and Coleman along with Jackson and Yu will team together in the main draw doubles. 
 
Duke features five ranked singles players – Kimchi (38), Jackson (41), Codd (49), Coleman (53) and Yu (73).  The Blue Devils doubles teams of Jackson/Yu are No. 58 and Kimchi/Coleman are No. 61.  Balus also earned a No. 10 ranking in the newcomer singles ledger.

Singles
12 p.m. – Ava Krug (Duke) vs. Sally Pethybridge (Portland)
 
Doubles
4:30 p.m. – Irina Balus/Ava Krug (Duke) vs. Shelly Bereznyak/Audrey Spencer (Ohio State)
