Women’s Tennis Returns to Action in Florida This Weekend

DURHAM – Following a nearly three-week break of matches, the 14th-ranked Duke women’s tennis team will return to action this weekend in Florida as the Blue Devils open ACC play against 25th-ranked Miami and 33rd-ranked Florida State on Friday and Sunday, respectively. 

 

The Blue Devils (6-2, 0-0 ACC) and Hurricanes (2-2, 0-0 ACC) will feature a first serve at 12 p.m., on Friday in Coral Gables, while Duke and Florida State (4-3, 0-0 ACC) also will open play at 12 p.m., on Sunday in Tallahassee.

The Series with Miami

The Blue Devils and the Miami Hurricanes will square off for the 35th time in school history. Duke is 20-14 all-time in the series, winning its last matchup, 4-3. The two teams will meet in Florida for the 14th time with the last matchup occurring on Mar. 27, 2022. Miami won the meeting, 4-3, snapping a Blue Devil two-match win streak against the Hurricanes in Florida.  

 

Scouting Miami

Miami owns a 2-2 overall record on the season with the Hurricanes topping No. 9 Texas A&M in their latest matchup, 4-3, at home. In the latest ITA rankings, Miami sits at No. 25. The Hurricanes feature three players in the singles ledgers— Alexa Noel (10), Isabella Pfennig (67) and Audrey Boch-Collins (101). In doubles, Alexa Noel/Xinyi Nong (48) are ranked. Miami is coached by Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, who enters her 27th year leading the Hurricanes. Yaroshuk-Tews and the Hurricanes recorded a 16-8 record a year ago placing them at No. 16 in the final ITA rankings.  

 

The Series with Florida State

The Blue Devils and the Florida State Seminoles will face off for the 45th time in school history. Duke is 38-6 all-time in the series, winning its last matchup, 6-1. The two teams will square off in Tallahassee for the 14th time with the last matchup occurring on Mar. 25, 2022. Florida State won the meeting, 4-2, snapping a four-match win streak against the Seminoles in Tallahassee.
