Women's Tennis Prepares To Take On Minnesota in Second Round of Big Ten Tournament


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—The Penn State women’s team will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to compete in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament hosted by Iowa. The Nittany Lions are slated to take on the Minnesota Gophers in the first round of play on Thursday, April 28 at 4 p.m. ET.

REGULAR SEASON RECAP 

The Nittany Lions ended their regular season posting a 11-12 record and 5-6 record in Big Ten Conference play to earn the No. 9 seed in the conference tournament. Penn State dropped their first two Big Ten matches against then-ranked No. 4 Ohio State and then-ranked No. 55 Nebraska. The Nittany Lions rebounded in their next two conference matches over Iowa and then-ranked No.70 Michigan State. Penn State finished out conference play with three wins over Illinois, Indiana and Rutgers.  

PREVIEWING THE GOPHERS 

Minnesota enters the Big Ten tournament as the No. 8 seed. The Gophers earned an 17-9 record in the regular season and posted a 5-6 conference record. Minnesota comes into the tournament riding a three- match win streak over Penn State, Indiana and Purdue.  

In their last match up on March 17, the Nittany Lions dropped the match to the Gophers in a 4-2 decision on the road. Minnesota took victory in doubles and won three of the five singles bouts to clinch the match. 

UP NEXT 

The winner of the dual match will face No.1 seed Ohio State on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m. ET.
