DURHAM – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its preseason coaches’ poll Wednesday with Duke women’s tennis earning the No. 15 slot.
With the No. 15 ranking, Duke has been listed in the top-16 of the preseason ITA poll each of the last 24 seasons.
Earning the top slot in the preseason ledger is North Carolina with 13 first-place votes, followed by Texas A&M, Georgia, Stanford, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Texas, Pepperdine, NC State and Florida rounding out the top 10.
A total of six ACC teams were ranked in the preseason poll – North Carolina (1), NC State (9), Virginia (12), Duke (15), Georgia Tech (20) and Miami (21).
As a team, Duke returns four starters and six letterwinners off last year’s squad that posted a 23-5 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round in 2023. Head coach Jamie Ashworth enters his 29th season with the Blue Devils and features a 596-148 overall ledger.
Four Blue Devils enter the spring ranked nationally in singles — sophomore Katie Codd (52), freshman Shavit Kimchi (65), junior Ellie Coleman (74) and graduate student Brianna Shvets (78). Other returning letterwinners are senior Karolina Berankova, graduate student Iuliia Bryzgalova and junior Emma Jackson.
Duke will open the 2024 spring schedule on Jan. 13 inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center against SMU at 1 p.m.
