Women’s Tennis Edged by UNCW, 4-3

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Penn State women’s tennis team (7-7) fell to the UNCW Seahawks 4-3 early Sunday afternoon at the UNCW Tennis Courts. 

“This was a tough loss for the team,” said head coach Alexandra Anghelescu. “But we learn the most from our losses. We have two Big Ten matches on the road that we need to be ready for. The team, Ronit and I Are ready to get back at it and prepare for the matches ahead!” 

DOUBLES  

UNCW earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and two.  

Olivia Ryan and Gabby O’Gorman lost to Sasha Belaya and Lauren Gish, 6-2. On court two, Yvonne Zuffova and Karly Friedland were defeated by UNCW’s Stela Joksimovic and Zoe Huffman inna 6-1 decision.  

Partners Deanna Lasorda and Alexandra Nielsen won their second straight doubles match in a 6-2 victory over Anna Danieos and Brinley Bell.  

SINGLES 

Danielle Alamo posted Penn State’s first point of the match and her first career singles win in a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Joksimovic. Karly Friedland followed up with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over UNCW’s Bell. O’Gorman’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Huffman was not enough to clinch the match.  

The Seahawks took the contest with wins on courts one, four and six.
