Women’s Tennis Downs East Carolina, 4-0

Greenville, N.C. – The No. 67 Penn State women’s tennis team (6-6) earned its first win of the weekend in a dominant 4-0 victory over East Carolina (2-9).  

“Every single girl brought great energy both on and off the court today,” said senior Olivia Ryan. “We’ve had a great week outdoors enjoying the beach and training hard. For our first match outdoors everyone gave it their all, and I was super happy to clinch the match for the girls. Always super fun playing alongside my best friends!” 

DOUBLES  

Penn State secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. 

At No. 1, Olivia Ryan and Gabby O’Gorman defeated Ines Bachir and Alisha Hussain in a 6-3 decision. On court three, Deanna Lasorda and Alexandra Nielsen bested Anna Lou Champion and Isabella Rivera Orti 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. 

Yvonne Zuffova and Karly Friedland were down 5-4 against East Carolina’s Sofia Cerezo Holgado and Alisa Dierckson at No. 2 before the Nittany Lions clinched.  

SINGLES 

The Nittany Lions earned points on courts one, two, and six to secure their victory. 

On court one, Zuffova took down Orti in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory. Gabby O’Gornan defeated East Carolina’s Dierckson in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Olivia Ryan collected Penn State’s the match clinching point on court six in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 match over Holgado.
